The Ausa Park takes its name from the stream that once flowed there. Since ancient times this river has left its mark in the history of Rimini, determining its urban layout, modifying the economy and the lifestyles of its inhabitants. The impact on the city and its traditions has always been deep. The Ausa river originates 400m above sea level in the territory of San Marino Republic. The stream “Aprusa”, as the Romans called it, marked the south border of the city. Since it wasn’t wide enough to ensure the protection of the city, defensive walls were built on that side. Some ruins are still visible in the gardens of the houses near Augustus’ Arch. The old course, now channeled underground, flowed into the sea where nowadays stands Piazzale Kennedy. Nowdays in this area there is a series of parks: Maria Elisabetta Renzi, Maria Callas, Alcide Cervi, Olga Bondi and Fabbri. They are all characterized by a rich vegetation and connected, in all their length, by a cycle path that starting from the quarry area, through over and underpasses, allows the arrival without interruption to the sea.
The park is important both for the citizens’ health and the environmental safeguard. It serves as the green heart inside the urban area.It also represents a meeting place thanks to its benches and a playground for kids. The park is also suitable for several outdoor activities (i.e. jogging, cycling, cross-country race etc.).In 2009 a training path (about 1.2 miles long) was built in the southern area of the park. It features gymnastic equipment easily accessible. In summer the park hosts many popular feasts.
